The theme for my portfolio revolves around baking a cake.  I chose it because I personally love to bake and it is something that brings my family together.  My grandma and I bake with one another every time I am home just to spend quality time together.  I felt that this theme would be a good representation because it described the Optimist Park community.  The community has a lot of different people in it including African Americans, Caucasians, refugees at one point in time, renters, homeowners, apartments, former mill workers, children, former teachers, and pretty much any other type of person imaginable.  Every individual brings a new perspective and idea to the table but all revolving around one central goal; to make Optimist Park a better community.  Baking a cake fits this scenario too.  Different ingredients all come together to reach one common goal; creating something delicious to eat.  If any ingredient is missing then the cake turns out unfit to eat, same with Optimist Park.  If all the individuals in the community do not come together then it will stall the beautification process.
